POSITION SUMMARY

Sony Corporation of America (SCA), the US headquarters of Sony, has an excellent opportunity for a Business Affairs Attorney. The SCA Legal Department provides comprehensive, proactive legal services to internal clients and coordinates closely with the legal teams of our affiliates. We work in a fast-paced, hands-on, small team environment, where being both a self-starter and team player is critical.

This role will require 3 days per week (Tuesday to Thursday) on-site in our NYC office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide legal services to assigned internal client groups, as well as supporting SCA attorneys on other assignments

  • Provide legal support on all aspects of strategic sourcing groups, with a focus on information technology agreements, including those that support information security and data center operations

  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts for complex, enterprise-wide transactions

  • Advise on privacy-related matters and work in close coordination with Privacy officers and Privacy counsel to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your qualifications and experience should include:

  • Requires a J.D. with strong academic performance, with membership in good standing in at least one state (preferably New York)

  • 5 – 8 years of transactional experience working in a well-respected law firm and/or a large corporation, with an emphasis on the review, negotiation and drafting of a wide array of commercial transactions

  • A proven ability to master complex legal requirements, learn quickly, and interact easily with all levels of employees

  • Experience meeting tight deadlines while simultaneously prioritizing multiple projects is essential

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and comprehensive interpersonal skills, with the ability to synthesize complex and technical issues into clear and concise actionable advice

  • A demonstrated ability to work very closely with the business client and on project teams, and to approach issues with a practical and global strategic focus

  • Attention to detail, commitment to quality, and passion for results

  • Requires a strong experience in reviewing a large volume of commercial transactions in support of various simultaneous procurement activities

  • Experience negotiating and drafting agreements for a wide array of technology and IP related transactions, including technology licensing and services (both inbound and outbound), use of AI solutions, cloud-based agreements (IAAS, PAAS, SAAS), IT outsourcing, cross-border transactions, and experience supporting data center operations and information security departments is strongly preferred

  • Experience coordinating across various business, legal and compliance departments of a multinational company’s global affiliates, including working with lawyers in other business units and countries, and acting as a project manager to coordinate activities of internal groups such as compliance, risk management, tax, information security, etc.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $190,000 to $210,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
